The Foundation’s “Day in the City” initiative was the subject of a recent Detroit Jewish News feature article. The report detailed the Foundation-sponsored educational initiative, which brought more than 120 Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) students to the Belle Isle Aquarium and the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, two of Albert Kahn’s earliest architectural treasures.

The front-page story recounted the day’s events of this award-winning, hands-on learning program which introduced students to these 122-year-old historic Detroit landmarks, where they discovered the beautiful, serene worlds of marine and plant inhabiting the Aquarium and Conservatory.

For many of the students, it was a first encounter with Belle Isle’s historic Kahn‑designed buildings. Jewish News reporter Shari Cohen captured their curiosity and creativity that filled both days in words and pictures.

We extend our sincere thanks to DPSCD teachers and students, the Belle Isle Conservancy, and our dedicated volunteers whose partnership made this award‑winning program possible.
