A walking history tour with Gabriel Craig

This walking tour will highlight the architecture andironwork of homes in the Arden Park and Boston-Edison neighborhoods of Detroit. The meticulously researched tour will feature homes built in the 1910s and 1920s by some of Detroit’s most respected architects of the period including: George D. Mason, Marcus R. Burrowes, Richard H. Marr, Mildner & Eisen, and of course, Albert Kahn. The tour will run approximate 90 minutes, attendees will walk 3 blocks.
$25 members, $30 for non-members
Meeting place: 54 Arden Park, Detroit, MI 48202. On street parking is available.
Gabriel Craig is a metalsmith, writer, and historian. In 2012, he founded Smith Shop with his wife and partner, Amy Weiks. Their nationally prominent studio produces functional and ornamental ironwork of extraordinary design and craftsmanship. Smith Shop has been repeatedly recognized for their work including numerous Detroit Design Awards. In 2020, they received the Craftsman award for excellence from the Parducci Society of Detroit. Craig’s work is in prominent private collections nationally and internationally, and most notably in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Carol Kahn, daughter of Edgar and Rose Kahn, granddaughter of Albert and Ernestine Kahn, will share her research from the Smithsonian Archive of American Art, the Bentley Historical Library, and her personal collection of family documents about the lives of the Kahn family women.
Using letters, photos, interviews, and film, she will share legends and stories of Rosalie Cohn Kahn, Mollie Kahn Fuchs, Paula Kahn Brown, Sarah Ewell Krolik, Ernestine Krolik Kahn, Lydia Kahn Malbin, Ruth Kahn Rothman, Rosalie Kahn Butzel,
Gisela (Peggy) Kahn Gresser, and her mother, Rose Herrmann Kahn.
There will be a Q & A after the lecture.

Proceeds raised by this event will support the Restoration of the Historic Temple Beth-El – Bethel Community Transformation Center and The Albert Kahn Legacy Foundation.
